The Russelectric RTS-03 is a bypass-isolation automatic transfer switch designed for mission-critical facilities where maintenance cannot interrupt power. It's the premium ATS choice for hospitals, Tier III/IV data centers, airports, military installations, and any facility where the cost of a 15-minute power interruption exceeds the cost of the switch itself.
Now a Siemens business, Russelectric has manufactured transfer switches in Hingham, Massachusetts since 1955. Every unit is custom-engineered to the specific application — there is no "standard catalog" configuration.
Russelectric switches are the most complex ATS in our service portfolio. Annual maintenance includes exercising the bypass mechanism, verifying interlock integrity, testing controls in both automatic and bypass modes, and inspecting contacts. The positive mechanical interlocks (which prevent unsafe configurations) require careful inspection — they protect against human error during bypass operations. These switches are over-engineered by design, and field failures are rare when properly maintained.

What does bypass-isolation mean?
Bypass-isolation allows you to manually transfer the load to either source (utility or generator) while completely isolating the automatic transfer mechanism for maintenance — without any interruption to the load. This means the ATS can be serviced, replaced, or tested while the building remains powered. It's mandatory for hospitals and Tier III+ data centers.
Why is Russelectric more expensive than ASCO?
Russelectric is custom-engineered per application with the highest withstand ratings in the industry (200kA at 480V with fuses). Every unit is essentially a one-off build. The premium buys you: maintenance without downtime (bypass-isolation), highest available fault current protection, and the most conservative engineering margins. For facilities where a 15-minute power interruption costs millions, the premium is trivial.
What is the 200kA withstand rating?
The Russelectric RTS-03 can close into and withstand 200kA of fault current at 480V when equipped with current-limiting fuses — the highest rating in the ATS industry. This means it can safely operate in locations with very high available fault current without requiring additional upstream current-limiting devices.
Who owns Russelectric now?
Russelectric is now a Siemens business (acquired 2019). Product quality and custom-engineering approach remain unchanged. Parts and service continue through the same channels.
