Overview#

The Cummins C2500 D6 is a 2500 kW (2.5 MW) standby diesel generator set powered by the QSK60 -- a 60-liter, V-16 diesel engine with Modular Common Rail fuel injection (MCRS). Rated at 3125 kVA standby and 2844 kVA prime at 60 Hz, the C2500 D6 represents the maximum output of the QSK60 platform.

At 2.5 MW, the C2500 D6 is the largest genset available on the QSK60 engine. Facilities needing more than 2500 kW per unit must step up to the QSK95-G2 platform (C3000 D6 and above). This makes the C2500 D6 a natural choice when maximizing power density per engine platform is the goal -- particularly in data centers and industrial plants where fewer, larger gensets reduce paralleling complexity.

Full Cummins vertical integration covers engine, alternator, PowerCommand controls, and cooling. Medium-voltage output options (4160V, 12470V, 13800V) and PowerCommand paralleling controllers enable multi-genset arrays for facilities requiring 5-25 MW of redundant standby capacity. Fuel consumption runs approximately 175 gallons per hour at full rated load.

Frequently Asked Questions

What engine does the Cummins C2500 D6 use?
The C2500 D6 uses the Cummins QSK60 -- a 60-liter, V-16 diesel engine with MCRS fuel injection. At 2500 kW, this model operates at the top of the QSK60 power band, delivering maximum output from the platform.
What are the standby and prime ratings of the C2500 D6?
Standby rating is 2500 kW (3125 kVA) at 60 Hz, 0.8 power factor. Prime rating is 2275 kW (2844 kVA). Both at 1800 rpm, 60 Hz, three-phase.
What are the service intervals for the C2500 D6?
Oil and filter changes are due at 500 hours or 12 months. Air filter replacement at 1,000-hour intervals. Fuel filter at 500 hours. Coolant flush at 6,000 hours. Major overhaul interval is 40,000 hours under standard standby duty conditions.
How does the C2500 D6 compare to the C3000 D6?
The C2500 D6 uses the QSK60 (60L, V-16) while the C3000 D6 steps up to the QSK95-G2 (95L, V-16) platform. The QSK95 provides substantially more displacement for the 3000+ kW class, operating with greater thermal headroom at those higher power levels.
Can OnPoint Generators service the C2500 D6 in Northern California?
Yes. OnPoint Generators provides authorized Cummins service for mega-diesel generators across the San Francisco Bay Area and Northern California. V-16 QSK60 engines require specialized tooling and bank-to-bank balance verification. We use Cummins INSITE diagnostics on every service visit.
