Overview#

The Generac MD300 is a 300 kW modular diesel standby generator system powered by an Iveco/FPT 10.3-liter turbocharged and aftercooled inline-six engine. Part of Generac's Modular Power System (MPS) platform, the MD300 is factory-configured with integrated paralleling controls that enable plug-and-play scalability. Multiple MD300 units can be deployed together for N+1 or N+2 redundancy, and the system supports mixed configurations with other MD Series units to match evolving facility load requirements.

The modular approach provides significant advantages for mission-critical applications: individual units can be taken offline for maintenance without interrupting backup power, transportation and rigging are simplified compared to a single larger genset, and capacity can be added incrementally as facility loads grow. The MD300 uses Generac's Modular Power System controller for automatic load sharing and synchronization.

Our Service Experience#

The MD300 shares the proven Iveco/FPT 10.3L platform with the SD300, a well-known engine in our service territory. Modular installations require careful attention to paralleling controller calibration during commissioning and at annual service intervals. We recommend exercising each module independently on a staggered schedule to verify that every unit can carry load on its own, in addition to regular parallel operation testing.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the MD300 and the SD300?
The MD300 is a modular (factory-paralleled) system designed for scalable, redundant power architectures. It uses the same Iveco/FPT 10.3L engine as the SD300 but comes factory-configured with integrated paralleling controls, enabling plug-and-play expansion with additional MD units. The SD300 is a single-unit standalone generator at the same power rating. The modular approach provides N+1 redundancy, easier installation logistics, and the ability to service one unit while another continues operating.
What is the fuel consumption of the MD300?
The MD300 uses the same Iveco/FPT 10.3L engine as the SD300. At standby rating, fuel consumption is approximately 22.1 gallons per hour at full load, 17.4 gph at 75% load, and 12.6 gph at 50% load per module.
What voltages are available?
The MD300 is available in three-phase configurations at 277/480V and 346/600V, both at 60 Hz.
