Overview#
The Kohler 2000ROZMC is a 1,760-kilowatt standby (1,600 kW prime) diesel generator built around a Mitsubishi S16R-Y1PTAA2-3 (50 Hz) or S16R-Y1PTAA2-1 (60 Hz) — a 65.4 L, 16-cylinder V-configuration turbocharged, air-to-air charge cooled diesel. The ROZMC designation indicates a non-EPA-certified variant available in both 50 Hz (1500 RPM) and 60 Hz (1800 RPM) configurations.
The 2000ROZMC serves the same application set as the REOZMD series but for markets where US EPA certification is not required: large industrial facilities in international markets, utility projects, and domestic non-regulated applications. Alternator options span 480V through 4,160V, and medium-voltage options up to 13,800V are available.
Note that the 2000ROZMC uses an S16R-Y1PTAA2 engine (air-to-air charge cooling) rather than the S16R-Y2PTAW2 (water-cooled intercooler) used in the REOZMD series. This results in different cooling system architecture and slightly different fuel consumption curves.

The S16R-Y1PTAA2 uses four cartridge oil filters. Oil pan capacity is 200 L (211 qt) dry, 250 L (264 qt) with filter change. Jacket water capacity is 170 L (44.9 gal); total radiator system capacity is 413 L (109 gal). Four 1,150 CCA batteries power dual 24V starter motors.
Common Failure Modes#
Fuel injection pump and injector wear is the primary concern at high operating hours, typically around 10,000 hours. The air-to-air charge cooling system on the S16R-Y1PTAA2 is different from the water-cooled intercooler system of the REOZMD; the charge cooler core must be inspected for fouling as part of the extended service schedule.
Turbocharger degradation at approximately 12,000 hours is an expected maintenance milestone. At 50 Hz operation (1500 RPM), the turbocharger runs at lower speeds but for longer continuous periods than at 60 Hz standby duty.
Cooling system maintenance is important given the 413 L total system capacity. Unlike the REOZMD series, the 2000ROZMC uses air-to-air charge cooling rather than a separate water circuit, simplifying the cooling architecture while requiring periodic charge air cooler core cleaning.
Starting battery condition — four 1,150 CCA batteries for dual 24V starting. Individual battery health testing at each annual inspection is required.
Our service experience#
OnPoint Generators provides installation, maintenance, load bank testing, and emergency service for Kohler industrial generators throughout Northern California and the Central Valley. The 2000ROZMC at 250.5" long and 35,000 lb is one of the largest generator sets we handle. These installations require heavy rigging expertise, medium-voltage switchgear experience, and 1.5 MW+ load banks for full-rated testing. We support both the 50 Hz and 60 Hz variants.
FAQ#
Q: What engine powers the Kohler 2000ROZMC? A: The 50 Hz version uses a Mitsubishi S16R-Y1PTAA2-3 and the 60 Hz version uses an S16R-Y1PTAA2-1. Both are 65.4 L, 16-cylinder V-configuration turbocharged diesels with air-to-air charge cooling. Refer to Kohler spec sheet G5-365 for complete details.
Q: Why does the 2000ROZMC run at 1500 RPM? A: In 50 Hz configuration, the ROZMC runs at 1500 RPM, which is standard for 50 Hz power generation. The ROZMC designation indicates a non-EPA-certified variant designed for export and non-regulated applications.
Q: What is the difference between the 2000ROZMC and 2000REOZMD? A: The REOZMD is EPA Tier 2 certified, runs at 1800 RPM (60 Hz only), and uses a water-cooled intercooler (S16R-Y2PTAW2-1). The ROZMC is non-certified, available in 50 Hz and 60 Hz variants, and uses air-to-air charge cooling (S16R-Y1PTAA2). The ROZMC also has a larger radiator system (413 L vs. 367 L).
Q: Does OnPoint service the Kohler 2000ROZMC? A: Yes. OnPoint Generators provides maintenance, repair, and full-load bank testing for Kohler 2000ROZMC generators throughout Northern California.
