Automatic Transfer Switch Services
Your automatic transfer switch is the critical link between utility power and your generator. When the grid fails, the ATS detects the outage, signals the generator to start, and transfers your building's electrical load — all within seconds. We keep that link reliable with scheduled inspections, annual maintenance, and comprehensive transfer testing.
Visual Inspection (Monthly / Quarterly)
Regular visual inspections catch developing problems before they prevent a transfer. Our technicians perform these checks on a monthly or quarterly schedule depending on your facility's requirements and NFPA 110 classification.
- Inspect engine for obvious faults
- Inspect ATS wiring connections
- Inspect contacts visually without removing barriers
- Confirm all time delay settings
- Observe all parameters in ATS controller
- Verify output start
- Observe proper operation
Annual Maintenance
Once per year, we perform a comprehensive ATS maintenance that requires de-energizing both power sources. This is the only way to inspect the internal contacts, linkages, and mechanical components that determine whether your switch will operate under load.
- Perform all visual inspections
- De-energize both power sources
- Remove barriers and inspect main contacts
- Verify operation of auxiliary contacts
- Lubricate all linkages and moving parts
- Lubricate main contacts
- Reassemble and verify proper operation
- Re-energize and perform building transfer (Normal to Load, Emergency to Load)
- Return to auto and verify no alarms
Why ATS Maintenance Matters
The automatic transfer switch is the single most critical point of failure in any emergency power system. A generator that starts perfectly and runs at full capacity is completely useless if the ATS does not transfer your building's load. And unlike a generator — which exercises itself weekly — the ATS transfer mechanism only operates during real outages or scheduled tests.
Without regular inspection and maintenance, ATS contacts corrode, linkages seize, control board capacitors degrade, and time delay settings drift. These failures are silent — you will not know your ATS has a problem until the next power outage, when it is too late to fix it.
For facilities governed by NFPA 110, ATS maintenance is not optional. The standard requires periodic testing and maintenance of all transfer switch equipment. Our maintenance programs satisfy these requirements and provide documented proof of compliance for inspectors and auditors.
Single Point of Failure
The ATS is the only component that must work for generator power to reach your building. No redundancy, no backup — it transfers or it does not.
Silent Failures
ATS problems do not announce themselves. Corroded contacts, seized linkages, and drifted settings are invisible until you need the switch to operate.
Compliance Requirement
NFPA 110 mandates periodic ATS testing and maintenance. Documented service records are required for Joint Commission, fire marshal, and insurance inspections.
