Propane (LPG) is a common alternative to natural gas where utility gas isn't available — particularly residential and rural commercial sites that already maintain a propane tank. LPG has higher energy density than NG (≈92,000 BTU/gal liquid) but requires careful sizing of the supply line, vaporizer, and tank for cold-weather operation. Most modern dual-fuel residential gensets accept either NG or LPG with a field selection.
