Overview#
The Kohler 30RCL is a 30-kilowatt residential liquid-cooled standby generator — the step up from the 24RCL for larger homes with heavier electrical demands. It uses the turbocharged KG2204T variant of Kohler's 2.2L industrial 4-cylinder block, running at 1800 RPM, and handles dual-zone HVAC, pool/spa, EV charging, and workshop loads that would push the 24 kW unit too close to its limit.
This is a common choice for the premium residential market in Los Altos Hills, Hillsborough, Atherton, Woodside, and Saratoga.
Sizing guidance#
30 kW (single-phase 120/240 V) is commonly applied to:
- Larger homes with dual-zone HVAC
- Two A/C systems
- Pool/spa with heat pump
- Level 2 EV charger
- Home workshop with compressor and power tools
- Wine cellar refrigeration
A documented load calculation should drive sizing. Step up to 38RCL if your study shows triple-zone HVAC, guest house on the same panel, commercial kitchen equipment, or multiple simultaneous large-motor starts.
Our service experience#
The 30RCL is our most-installed residential RCL in premium communities. It serves the typical mid-to-large estate with pool, dual HVAC, and home office. Service is similar to the 24RCL — same 2.2L engine family, same RDC2 controller — but with the turbo and a 30 kW alternator handling load more comfortably during high-demand periods.
