The Kohler 30RCL is a 30-kilowatt residential liquid-cooled standby generator — the step up from the 24RCL for larger homes with heavier electrical demands. It uses the turbocharged KG2204T variant of Kohler's 2.2L industrial 4-cylinder block, running at 1800 RPM, and handles dual-zone HVAC, pool/spa, EV charging, and workshop loads that would push the 24 kW unit too close to its limit.
This is a common choice for the premium residential market in Los Altos Hills, Hillsborough, Atherton, Woodside, and Saratoga.
30 kW (single-phase 120/240 V) is commonly applied to:
Larger homes with dual-zone HVAC
Two A/C systems
Pool/spa with heat pump
Level 2 EV charger
Home workshop with compressor and power tools
Wine cellar refrigeration
A documented load calculation should drive sizing. Step up to 38RCL if your study shows triple-zone HVAC, guest house on the same panel, commercial kitchen equipment, or multiple simultaneous large-motor starts.
The 30RCL is our most-installed residential RCL in premium communities. It serves the typical mid-to-large estate with pool, dual HVAC, and home office. Service is similar to the 24RCL — same 2.2L engine family, same RDC2 controller — but with the turbo and a 30 kW alternator handling load more comfortably during high-demand periods.

Estimate runtime on this tank
Fuel demand at 75% load
315,000 BTU/hr≈ 315.0 cf/min @ 1,000 BTU/cf
On utility natural gas the runtime is generally unlimited provided the supply line and meter can deliver this BTU/hr at the engine's required inlet pressure (typically 5–14" WC residential, up to 5 psi commercial). Confirm against the OEM's published fuel-pressure spec.
Service intervals
Manufacturer-recommended intervals for the Kohler 30RCL under standby duty. Field intervals may differ based on load profile, ambient conditions, and fuel quality.

Frequently Asked Questions
What size home needs a 30 kW generator?
The 30RCL is sized for homes 4,000-6,000+ sq ft with dual-zone HVAC, pool equipment, workshop loads, or multiple EV chargers. If your total electrical panel is 200A with heavy loads running simultaneously, 30 kW provides appropriate headroom.
Is 30 kW overkill for my house?
Only if your total peak demand is well under 20 kW. A proper load calculation considers all simultaneous loads including HVAC compressor starts, which can spike 3-5x running current. The 30RCL gives you headroom that the 24RCL doesn't for larger homes with multiple large motors.
What's the difference between the 24RCL and 30RCL engines?
Both use the Kohler 2.2L industrial 4-cylinder block at 1800 RPM. The 24RCL uses the naturally-aspirated KG2204; the 30RCL uses the turbocharged KG2204T to pull additional output from the same displacement. Service points and intervals are essentially the same.
