Overview#

The Blue Star JD80-03FT4 is an 80-kilowatt EPA Tier 4 Final diesel standby/prime generator built around the John Deere 4045HFG04 — the same 4.5-liter inline-four used in the JD60-04FT4, but paired with a larger Stamford UCI274C alternator to deliver the higher kW rating. This is a current-production active model.

Both standby and prime ratings are equal at 80 kWe, making this unit suitable for continuous prime power applications as well as emergency standby.

JD60-04FT4 (60 kW, same engine, Tier 4 Final) — same footprint, lower fuel consumption, 200 lbs lighter. Choose this if 60 kW meets the load study.
VD100-04FT4 (100 kW, Volvo Penta, Tier 4 Final) — steps up to a Volvo Penta engine for the next kW class. Choose this if 80 kW is marginal.
JD80-02 (80 kW, John Deere, Tier 3) — the Tier 3 predecessor without aftertreatment or DEF. Choose only where Tier 3 is still permitted.

The 3.8-gallon DEF tank at 80 kW full load provides roughly 15 hours before replenishment — adequate for emergency standby but should be checked before each exercise run.
