80 kW Tier 4 Final diesel standby/prime generator from Blue Star Power Systems. John Deere 4045HFG04 4.5L inline-four with SCR/DOC, DSE DCP7310 controller, 208-600V.
The Blue Star JD80-03FT4 is an 80-kilowatt EPA Tier 4 Final diesel standby/prime generator built around the John Deere 4045HFG04 — the same 4.5-liter inline-four used in the JD60-04FT4, but paired with a larger Stamford UCI274C alternator to deliver the higher kW rating. This is a current-production active model.
Both standby and prime ratings are equal at 80 kWe, making this unit suitable for continuous prime power applications as well as emergency standby.
Same 4.5L inline-four as the JD60-04FT4 — identical engine specs, bore (4.20 in), stroke (5.00 in), and 133 HP rating
Higher alternator loading — the UCI274C alternator extracts 80 kWe versus 60 kWe from the same engine, resulting in higher fuel consumption (5.96 vs 4.82 gph at full load)
SCR/DOC aftertreatment with 3.8-gallon integrated DEF tank, approximately 4.3% DEF-to-fuel consumption ratio
8,400 ft altitude ceiling — same excellent high-altitude capability as the JD60
The JD80-03FT4 shares all service procedures with the JD60-04FT4 — same engine, same aftertreatment, same DEF system. The higher alternator loading means the engine runs at a higher output percentage at any given load, which can result in slightly more frequent DPF regeneration cycles. The 3.8-gallon DEF tank at 80 kW full load provides roughly 15 hours before replenishment — adequate for emergency standby but should be checked before each exercise run. John Deere's dealer network provides excellent parts availability in Northern California. The DSE DCP7310 controller is consistent with the rest of the Blue Star lineup.#

Frequently Asked Questions
What engine is in the JD80-03FT4?
The John Deere 4045HFG04 — a 4.5-liter inline-four turbocharged-aftercooled diesel rated 133 HP (99.2 kWm) at 1800 RPM. This is the same engine used in the JD60-04FT4 (60 kW), but paired with a larger Stamford UCI274C alternator to deliver 80 kWe. EPA Tier 4 Final certified with SCR/DOC exhaust aftertreatment requiring DEF (diesel exhaust fluid).
Does the JD80-03FT4 require DEF?
Yes. The JD80-03FT4 uses SCR (selective catalytic reduction) with DOC (diesel oxidation catalyst) aftertreatment. DEF consumption is approximately 4.3% of fuel consumption, and the integrated DEF tank holds 3.8 gallons. At full load (5.96 gph fuel), the DEF tank provides roughly 15 hours of operation before needing replenishment.
How does the JD80-03FT4 compare to the JD60-04FT4?
Both use the same John Deere 4045HFG04 engine and share the same physical footprint (90 x 54 x 66 in) and sound level (77 dBA). The JD80 extracts more power from the engine via a larger Stamford UCI274C alternator (versus UCI224F on the JD60), delivering 80 kWe versus 60 kWe. The trade-off is higher fuel consumption (5.96 vs 4.82 gph at full load) and 200 lbs more weight. Choose the JD80 when the load study shows peak demand between 60-80 kW.
What is the altitude deration for the JD80-03FT4?
Rated power is available up to 8,400 ft (2,560 m) at ambient temperatures to 122F (50C). Same altitude ceiling as the JD60-04FT4, both suitable for virtually any US installation.
