Blue Star JD60-02
60 kW standby · Diesel · Liquid-cooled
60 kW Tier 3 diesel standby generator built by Blue Star Power Systems. John Deere 4045TF280 engine, Stamford UCI224 alternator, DSE DCP7310 controller.
The Blue Star JD60-02 is a 60-kilowatt Tier 3 diesel standby generator built around a John Deere 4045TF280 four-cylinder engine. It occupies the upper end of the 4045-powered range in Blue Star's John Deere lineup — producing 60 kWe from the same 4.5-liter platform used in the JD40 and JD50, made possible by pairing the engine with a higher-frame Stamford UCI224 alternator.
Blue Star Power Systems, Inc., headquartered in North Mankato, Minnesota and a DEUTZ AG company since August 2024, assembles this unit with open-architecture componentry: John Deere engine, Stamford alternator, DSE controller. The JD60-02 shares its physical envelope with the JD40-03 and JD50-03 (80×38×58 in OPU), making it interchangeable in existing equipment pads designed for that footprint.
Running the 4045TF280 at 60 kWe requires 85 HP — the upper end of the engine's rated output. This leaves less thermal headroom than the same engine at 40 or 50 kWe, which is worth noting during load analysis. Fuel consumption rises to 4.95 gph at full load (vs 4.23 for the JD50-03). If the connected load routinely approaches 60 kWe, stepping up to the JD80-02 with its 4045HF285 and charge-air cooling gives substantially more margin.
The JD60-02 shares all major service parts and intervals with the JD40-03 and JD50-03 — same 4045 oil and fuel filters, same John Deere dealer network. In our Northern California territory, this makes the JD60 a practical choice for sites where vendor-managed maintenance contracts are not in place and the customer needs to source parts locally.

Frequently Asked Questions
What engine does the JD60-02 use?
The John Deere 4045TF280 — a 4.5-liter, four-cylinder turbocharged diesel rated at 85 HP at 1800 RPM for the 60 kWe standby application. This is the same engine platform used across Blue Star's JD40-03 and JD50-03, but calibrated for higher output. EPA Tier 3 certification keeps this unit compliant in most stationary emergency standby applications without aftertreatment hardware.
What controller does the JD60-02 use?
The DSE DCP7310 Digital Control Panel, featuring CAN Bus J1939 engine communication, digital metering, RS-485 interface, 8 programmable contact inputs, and 10 contact outputs. It is cULus Listed, CE Approved, and NFPA 110 Level 1 compatible.
How does the JD60-02 compare to the JD50-03 and JD80-02?
All three share the open John Deere / Stamford / DSE architecture. The JD50-03 and JD60-02 both use the 4045TF280, so the 60 kWe unit produces more output from the same engine by using a larger-frame Stamford alternator (UCI224G vs UCI224F at 480V). The JD80-02 steps up to the 4045HF285 — a higher-output variant with charge air cooling — to reach 80 kWe. Fuel consumption at full load is 4.95 gph (JD60) vs 4.23 gph (JD50) vs 6.34 gph (JD80).
Is the JD60-02 a good fit for a small medical office or fire station?
Yes — at 60 kWe it covers HVAC, lighting, and critical plug loads for buildings in the 3,000–8,000 sq ft range. For life-safety or legally required standby loads, verify the specific NFPA 110 classification with the AHJ. The JD60-02 is UL 2200 listed and NFPA 110 compliant, which satisfies most code requirements for emergency and optional standby categories.
