Overview#

The Blue Star JD200-01 is a 200-kilowatt Tier 3 diesel standby generator powered by a John Deere 6068HFG85 six-cylinder engine. It represents the upper end of the 6.8-liter John Deere lineup within Blue Star's diesel product line — sharing a footprint with the JD150-01 but extracting 315 HP from the same basic engine family through a higher-output calibration.

Assembled in North Mankato, Minnesota by Blue Star Power Systems (DEUTZ AG subsidiary since 2024), the JD200-01 pairs the 6068HFG85 with a Stamford S4L1S alternator and DSE DCP7310 controller. At 200 kWe, it serves the upper end of medium-commercial and the lower end of large-commercial standby applications.

The John Deere 6068HFG85#

The 6068HFG85 is a higher-output variant of the 6068 series, distinguished from the HF285 by its G-suffix designation indicating a revised fuel injection calibration for higher power density. Running at 315 HP standby with a 17.0:1 compression ratio, the HFG85 delivers substantially more output than the HF285 (237 HP) while remaining on the same 6.8-liter platform. The exhaust restriction budget is specified at 40.0 in H2O — more generous than smaller models — accommodating longer exhaust system runs.

Our service experience#

The 6068HFG85 is serviced through the same John Deere dealer network as the rest of the 4045 and 6068 family. At 200 kWe, fuel tank sizing becomes important for extended runtime — the 24-hour tank option holds 375 gallons at a consumption rate of 14.5 gph at full load (roughly 26 hours at full load with the standard tank). For critical applications, a 72-hour or sub-base day tank is recommended.

Frequently Asked Questions

What engine does the JD200-01 use?
The John Deere 6068HFG85 — a 6.8-liter, six-cylinder turbocharged and charge-air-cooled diesel rated at 315 HP at 1800 RPM for this standby application. It is a higher-output variant of the 6068 platform (versus the HF285 used in the JD150-01), tuned for the 200 kWe rating through a revised fuel system and a compression ratio of 17.0:1. EPA Tier 3 certified.
What controller does the JD200-01 use?
The DSE DCP7310 Digital Control Panel — CAN Bus J1939, digital metering, RS-485, 8 programmable contact inputs, 10 contact outputs, cULus Listed, CE Approved, NFPA 110 Level 1 compatible.
How does the JD200-01 compare to the JD150-01 and JD250-02?
The JD200-01 and JD150-01 share the same 110×54 in footprint but the JD200 is 7 in taller (70 in vs 64 in) and 425 lbs heavier (3,925 vs 3,500 lbs OPU). The engine steps up from the 6068HF285 (237 HP) to the 6068HFG85 (315 HP). The JD250-02 moves to a completely different engine — the 9.0-liter six-cylinder 6090HF484 — and a much larger 120×66 in footprint. Fuel at full load: 14.5 gph (JD200) vs 11.1 gph (JD150) vs 17.7 gph (JD250).
What is the exhaust restriction limit for the JD200-01?
The JD200-01 specifies a maximum allowable exhaust restriction of 40.0 in H2O — higher than the 30.0 in H2O limit on smaller JD models. This allows for longer exhaust runs or more complex exhaust routing, but the system designer must still account for the full restriction budget including critical-grade silencer, flex connectors, elbows, and pipe run losses.
