Overview#

The Blue Star JD275-02 is a 275-kilowatt Tier 3 diesel standby generator built around a John Deere 6090HF484 nine-liter six-cylinder engine. It is a three-phase-only unit — at this power level, single-phase configurations are not practical — and shares its physical footprint (120×66×79 in OPU) with the JD250-02, differentiating primarily through alternator selection.

Blue Star Power Systems (North Mankato, Minnesota; DEUTZ AG subsidiary since 2024) assembles this unit with a Stamford S4L1S alternator and DSE DCP7310 controller. The JD275-02 fills the gap between the 250 kWe and 300 kWe models for buyers who need more than 250 kWe but whose load analysis stops below the JD300-02's rating.

The John Deere 6090HF484 at 275 kWe#

The 6090HF484 produces 422 HP at 1800 RPM — identical to its output in the JD250-02. The higher 275 kWe output is achieved through an alternator with a higher kVA rating, not additional engine power. This means the JD275-02 engine operates at effectively the same thermal load as the JD250-02, with fuel consumption increasing modestly (18.7 vs 17.7 gph at full load) due to the alternator's higher efficiency demands. The altitude deration limit is the same as the JD250-02: rated power available only up to 1,677 ft (511 m) at 50°C ambient.

When to spec the JD275-02#

Our service experience#

The JD275-02's service requirements are identical to the JD250-02: same engine, same coolant volume (13.2 gal system coolant), same 2500W 240V jacket water heater, same oil capacity (8.20 gal). The only differentiation at service time is confirming the correct Stamford alternator model for parts ordering. John Deere 6090 service is available through the standard dealer network.

Estimate runtime on this tank

Estimated runtime

13.9 hours(0.6 days)

Fuel consumption ≈ 14.43 GPH at 75% load. Estimate based on industry-typical 1800 RPM standby curves (≈0.07 GPH/kW at full load). Actual consumption varies by engine, ambient temperature, fuel quality, and tuning.

Frequently Asked Questions

What engine does the JD275-02 use?
The John Deere 6090HF484 — a 9.0-liter, six-cylinder turbocharged and charge-air-cooled diesel rated at 422 HP at 1800 RPM. This is the same engine used in the JD250-02, with the same 16.0:1 compression ratio and identical thermal characteristics. The JD275-02 achieves the higher 275 kWe output through an alternator configuration change, not an engine change.
Why is the JD275-02 three-phase only?
At 275 kWe, single-phase output at 240V would require over 1,100 amperes — beyond the practical current rating for most single-phase alternators in this frame size. The JD275-02 is therefore offered only in three-phase configurations: 120/208V, 277/480V, and 347/600V. Buyers requiring single-phase 240V at the 250 kWe range should specify the JD250-02 instead.
What controller does the JD275-02 use?
The DSE DCP7310 Digital Control Panel — CAN Bus J1939, digital metering, RS-485, 8 programmable contact inputs, 10 contact outputs, cULus Listed, CE Approved, NFPA 110 Level 1 compatible.
How does the JD275-02 compare to the JD250-02 and JD300-02?
The JD275-02 and JD250-02 share the 6090HF484 engine and identical 120×66×79 in OPU footprint — distinguishable only by alternator selection and weight (5,475 vs 5,400 lbs). The JD300-02 moves to the 6090HFG86, a higher-output variant of the same engine, on a slightly taller skid (82 in vs 79 in) to reach 300 kWe. The JD275 and JD300 are three-phase-only; the JD250 retains a single-phase 240V option.
