The Hipower HRNG-900 is a 720 kW trailer-mounted natural gas generator in Hipower's HRNG mobile series. At 720 kW, this is one of the largest natural gas trailer generators manufactured — appropriate for major temporary power scenarios: data center bypass, hospital campus generator projects, and large industrial planned outages.
HRNG units connect to the site's permanent natural gas supply rather than carrying on-board diesel. At 720 kW, gas supply infrastructure is a critical project element requiring substantial advance planning. The site must have a very high-capacity utility gas service, and the complete gas system — meter, regulator, and distribution piping — must be engineered and confirmed adequate before deployment. Utility coordination for service upgrades at this scale typically requires significant lead time.
CARB certification makes the HRNG-900 suitable for California temporary standby at this scale without air district variance. At 720 kW, CARB-certified mobile natural gas options are extremely limited, making the HRNG-900 a unique specification for California project teams with sites that have adequate gas infrastructure.
PSI Engine Platform#
The HRNG-900 is powered by a PSI natural gas engine running at 1800 RPM. PSI supplies spark-ignited engines to multiple standby generator manufacturers and maintains a broad parts and service network across North America. The specific PSI model designation for this output class is pending verification from OEM documentation — service follows standard PSI spark-ignited practice: spark plugs and oil at 1000-hour intervals, annual gas system inspection, no DPF, no DEF.
CARB-Certified for California#
Hipower's HRNG series holds CARB certification for California temporary natural gas standby. The HRNG-900 qualifies for California permit-by-rule at 720 kW.
