Overview#

The Hipower HRNG-1250 is a 940 kW trailer-mounted natural gas generator — the flagship of Hipower's HRNG mobile series and one of the largest natural gas trailer generators available. At nearly 1 MW of temporary power, the HRNG-1250 is used for the most demanding temporary standby scenarios: replacing major standby generators while maintaining full facility power, bypassing large electrical switchgear, and providing emergency coverage for critical infrastructure campuses.

Like all HRNG units, the HRNG-1250 connects to the site's permanent natural gas supply — no on-board diesel, no delivery logistics, no SPCC risk. At 940 kW, gas supply infrastructure is a defining project constraint: the site must have very high utility gas capacity, and a mechanical engineer must design the complete gas system (meter, regulator, piping) for the full-load BTU demand. Utility coordination typically requires substantial lead time for service upgrades at this scale.

CARB certification makes the HRNG-1250 suitable for California temporary standby without air district variance. At this power class, CARB-certified mobile natural gas options are essentially unique to Hipower's HRNG series.

PSI Engine Platform#

The HRNG-1250 is powered by a PSI natural gas engine running at 1800 RPM. PSI supplies spark-ignited engines to multiple standby generator manufacturers and maintains a broad parts and service network across North America. The specific PSI model designation for this output class is pending verification from OEM documentation — service follows standard PSI spark-ignited practice: spark plugs and oil at 1000-hour intervals, annual gas system inspection, no DPF, no DEF.

CARB-Certified for California#

Hipower's HRNG series holds CARB certification for California temporary natural gas standby. The HRNG-1250 qualifies for California permit-by-rule at 940 kW.

Service and Maintenance#

Our Service Experience#

OnPoint Generators supports large HRNG deployments in Northern California. The HRNG-1250 requires thorough pre-deployment gas system engineering, comprehensive commissioning, and a documented maintenance plan throughout the rental period. For facilities planning major bypass projects at this scale, OnPoint provides full deployment planning and on-site support.

Estimate runtime for the Hipower HRNG-1250

Adjust load percent and tank size to estimate runtime. Pre-filled with this model's spec where available.

Estimate runtime on this tank

Fuel demand at 75% load

9,870,000 BTU/hr9870.0 cf/min @ 1,000 BTU/cf

On utility natural gas the runtime is generally unlimited provided the supply line and meter can deliver this BTU/hr at the engine's required inlet pressure (typically 5–14" WC residential, up to 5 psi commercial). Confirm against the OEM's published fuel-pressure spec.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the HRNG-1250 and what makes it the flagship HRNG?
The HRNG-1250 delivers 940 kW of temporary natural gas power — the largest output in Hipower's HRNG trailer series. It is used for the most demanding temporary power scenarios where nearly 1 MW from a permanent gas supply is required.
What gas supply is required for 940 kW?
940 kW natural gas demand is very high — this is a major utility infrastructure requirement. High-pressure meter, large-bore regulators, and high-capacity distribution piping must be engineered for the BTU demand. Utility coordination for a service upgrade is almost always required and may add significant project lead time. <!-- NEEDS VERIFICATION: HRNG-1250 BTU/hr and gas pressure requirements -->
Is the HRNG-1250 CARB certified?
Yes. The HRNG series holds CARB certification for California temporary natural gas standby applications. At 940 kW, the HRNG-1250 is among the largest CARB-certified mobile natural gas generators available.
What applications require a 940 kW trailer generator?
Replacing permanent standby generators at large facilities (data centers, hospital complexes) while maintaining full power during switchover; providing bypass power during major electrical infrastructure work; and supplementing power for large industrial plants during critical maintenance windows.
Is this a single-trailer unit?
