Overview#
The Hipower HRIW-45 T4F is a 45 kVA (40 kW standby / 36 kW prime) trailer-mounted mobile diesel generator powered by an Isuzu diesel engine. Part of the HRIW Isuzu-powered rental mobile series, the HRIW-45 targets construction sites, outdoor event productions, and rental fleet operators that need more capacity than the entry-level 25 kVA unit without stepping up to a heavier trailer. EPA Tier 4 Final certified for California job site deployment.
Manufactured at Hipower's Olathe, Kansas facility, the HRIW-45 provides multi-voltage output — 120/240V single-phase, 208V and 480V three-phase — making it adaptable to a wide range of temporary power requirements. The Isuzu engine platform is among the most serviced in North America, with a dense parts and dealer network throughout Northern California.
Engine Platform#
The HRIW-45 uses an Isuzu diesel engine from the industrial 4-cylinder lineup — a liquid-cooled, turbocharged unit engineered for 1,800 RPM continuous duty in generator applications. Isuzu industrial engines have built a strong reputation in the rental generator market for low fuel consumption, reliable cold starting, and long service intervals relative to their output class. Dealer coverage spans the Bay Area, Sacramento Valley, Central Valley, and North Coast, making same-day parts available in most Northern California markets.
The Isuzu engine at this size class is compact and lightweight — keeping trailer weight manageable for towing with a standard pickup truck, which matters for rental operators dispatching units to tight urban job sites where large tow vehicles are impractical.
Built for Rental Deployment#
The HRIW-45 is designed as an integrated factory trailer unit. Key rental-ready features:
- DOT-compliant trailer with marker and brake lighting for legal highway towing
- Multi-voltage output panel for single-phase and three-phase 480V connections
- Lockable weatherproof enclosure rated for outdoor storage and transport in Northern California weather conditions
- Integral fuel tank supporting extended shift operation without mid-day refueling
- EPA Tier 4 Final compliance for unrestricted California CARB job site use
The 40 kW class is commonly deployed for: construction site trailers and offices, outdoor stage power for small concerts and festivals, temporary power during meter disconnects for residential renovation, and backup power for small retail locations during utility maintenance outages.
Service & Maintenance#
Rental-optimized intervals account for variable fueling quality and outdoor storage between deployments:
- Oil and oil filter: Every 250 hours or 6 months, whichever comes first
- Fuel filter: Every 250 hours — field fueling quality varies; water contamination is the leading fuel system failure cause on rental units
- Air filter: Every 500 hours or when restriction indicator trips
- Major overhaul inspection: At 15,000 hours
Pre-deployment inspection checklist:
- Check Isuzu engine oil level and condition
- Drain fuel filter water separator; replace filter at 250-hour interval
- Load-test starting battery (float voltage is not sufficient)
- Grease trailer coupler ball socket; inspect safety chains
- Verify all running lights functional
- Confirm enclosure door latches secure and seals intact
- Run at 25% load for 5–10 minutes before dispatch confirmation
