300 kW Tier 4 Final / Stage 5 diesel generator with Volvo Penta TAD1383VE 12.8L engine. Water-to-air aftercooled, SCR+DEF, Basler DGC-2020. Made in USA.
The Gillette T4D-3000 is a 300-kilowatt Tier 4 Final / Stage V diesel generator on Volvo's TAD1383VE — a 12.8L inline-6 with water-to-air aftercooling and SCR aftertreatment. This is the T4D lineup's transition to H2O-to-air cooling (the T4D-2500 uses air-to-air). Rated at 300 kW for both standby and prime. Basler DGC-2020 controller.
The T4D-3000 combines two heat sources: the turbocharged 12.8L at 469 bhp AND the SCR catalyst system's exothermic reaction. Water-to-air aftercooling provides better charge cooling consistency under this combined thermal load. The Tier III SPVD-3000 (same 12.8L at 300 kW) uses air-to-air because it doesn't have the SCR heat contribution.
At 300 kW Tier 4 Final, the T4D-3000 requires both standard diesel service and DEF/SCR maintenance. The water-to-air aftercooler adds an additional coolant circuit to monitor. We treat every T4D service visit as three systems: engine, cooling, and aftertreatment.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why does the T4D-3000 switch to water-to-air aftercooling?
At 300 kW from 12.8L (469 bhp, same as the Tier III SPVD-3000's TAD1351GE), the T4D-3000 uses H2O-to-air aftercooling for more effective charge cooling at high output with the additional heat from SCR aftertreatment. The T4D-2500 uses air-to-air; the T4D-3000 and T4D-3500 switch to water-to-air.
DEF consumption at 300 kW?
Approximately 6.3% of diesel. At 22.0 gal/hr diesel at full load, expect ~1.4 gal/hr DEF.
