Overview#
The Generac SD150 is a 150-kilowatt industrial diesel standby generator powered by an Iveco/FPT 6.7-liter turbocharged and aftercooled inline-six engine. Rated at 150 kW standby and 135 kW prime (188/169 kVA), the SD150 uses the same 6.7L displacement as the SD130 but with a 4-valve cylinder head, electronic fuel injection, and a larger alternator frame. BMEP is 257 psi at the 150 kW standby rating, and exhaust temperature is 895°F (479°C). The generator is EPA Certified for Stationary Emergency applications.
Generac pairs the Iveco 6.7L with the K0150124Y21 alternator featuring Class H insulation, Permanent Magnet excitation, and THD less than 5%. The Digital H control panel provides NFPA 110 Level I and II programmable operation, Modbus communications, and a 7-day programmable exerciser. The engine coolant heater and closed coolant recovery system are standard equipment.
At 150 kW, this unit serves larger commercial standby applications: large hotel properties, multi-tenant medical facilities, larger data rooms, light industrial facilities with 480V three-phase distribution, and multi-building campus standby with a single generator. The 226-amp 277/480V configuration covers most commercial three-phase distribution panels in this power range.

Our Service Experience#
The SD150's electronic fuel injection system is sensitive to fuel quality. Annual fuel polishing is recommended for any installation where the generator exercises fewer than 12 times per year or where the sub-base tank sits for extended periods. The belt-driven water pump requires regular belt inspection at every service interval.
At 11.2 gph full load, a 510-gallon sub-base tank provides approximately 45 hours of runtime. For NFPA 110 Class 72 requirements, the 946-gallon or 1325-gallon tank options are needed. The 895°F exhaust temperature, while lower than the SD175, still requires proper flex connector specification and annual inspection.
Frequently Asked Questions#
Is the SD150 single-phase capable? Yes. The SD150 is available in single-phase 120/240 VAC at 625 amps at 1.0 power factor. This is a substantial single-phase capacity for larger facilities with single-phase service that need 150 kW of standby power. Three-phase configurations from 120/208V through 346/600V are also available.
What alternator upsizing options are available? With the K0200124Y21 upsize alternator at 480 VAC and a 30% voltage dip, motor starting capability increases from 326 sKVA to 478 sKVA. With the K0250124Y21, it reaches 630 sKVA at 480 VAC. These options cover facilities with multiple large HVAC compressors or elevator motors.
Is IBC seismic certification available for the SD150? Yes. IBC seismic certification is an engineered option for the SD150, available per factory order. Required for California essential facilities, hospitals, and other occupancies subject to CBC/IBC seismic requirements.
