Overview#

The MQ Power DCA-125 WhisperWatt is a 125 kVA (100 kW prime / 110 kW standby) trailer-mounted portable diesel generator powered by an Isuzu BR-4HK1X 5.2L inline-4. It occupies the upper-middle range of the WhisperWatt lineup between the DCA-70 (56 kW prime) and DCA-150 (120 kW prime), with a 169-gallon fuel tank for extended run times.

Unlike the smaller DCA-45, the DCA-125 requires DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid) for Tier 4 Final compliance — the Isuzu 4HK1 at this displacement uses SCR in addition to EGR.

DEF / SCR aftertreatment#

The DCA-125 uses DEF for emissions compliance via SCR. Key operational notes:

Common applications#

Our service experience#

The DCA-125 is our go-to recommendation when a customer needs more than 70 kW but hasn't yet reached the scale requiring a DCA-150 or DCA-300. The Isuzu 4HK1 platform is broadly familiar to diesel service technicians. The 169-gallon tank means substantially less refueling logistics than smaller units at the same site — a practical advantage that's often underappreciated when evaluating fleet options.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the DCA-125 require DEF?
Yes. The Isuzu BR-4HK1X at this displacement uses SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) for Tier 4 Final compliance, requiring DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid). Multiquip publishes a 7.4-gallon DEF tank. Ignoring low-DEF warnings results in progressive power derating.
How long does the 169-gallon tank last?
At full load (7.11 GPH), approximately 24 hours. At 75% load (5.6 GPH), roughly 30 hours. The 169-gallon tank makes the DCA-125 practical for multi-day site deployments without refueling.
What's the DCA-125 used for?
The DCA-125 covers 80-100 kW commercial temporary power needs: large construction phases, major outdoor events, commercial facility backup during extended utility outages, and film/TV production with large power requirements.
How does the DCA-125 compare to the DCA-70?
The DCA-125 (100 kW prime) nearly doubles the DCA-70's output (56 kW prime) using a 5.2L Isuzu 4-cylinder vs the DCA-70's 3.0L engine. Both run at 66 dB(A). The DCA-125 is trailer-mounted with a much larger 169-gallon tank vs the DCA-70's 103 gallons.
