Overview#
The Hipower HTW-2000 is a 2,000 kW standby diesel generator — the pinnacle of Hipower's North American lineup. Powered by an MTU (Rolls-Royce Power Systems) 20V4000-series engine, it targets hyperscale data centers, large hospital campuses, and mission-critical infrastructure where 2 MW standby must be delivered from a single unit. Built in Olathe, Kansas with NFPA 110 Level 1 compliance, IBC 2021 seismic certification, and 200 mph wind rating for California deployments.
MTU 20V4000: The Flagship Platform#
The 20-cylinder V-configuration 4000 Series is MTU's largest power generation engine. With a 30,000+ hour TBO and SCR aftertreatment for Tier 4 Final compliance, the 20V4000 is deployed at Tier I data centers, naval installations, and power plants worldwide. At 2 MW, it eliminates the paralleling complexity of running two 1 MW units — one generator, one control system, one maintenance scope.
Mission-Critical at 2 MW#
The HTW-2000 supports N+1 configurations with appropriate paralleling switchgear for hyperscale deployments. NFPA 110 Level 1 compliance, IBC Zone 4 seismic certification, and California CARB approval make it deployable at any NorCal data center or hospital without regulatory restrictions. Remote monitoring via MTU's DiASter system provides predictive maintenance data and real-time engine telemetry.
Service and Maintenance#
The 20-cylinder DEF system requires diligent maintenance — DEF purge cycles at shutdown, injector inspection every 4,000 hours, and SCR catalyst monitoring. Oil changes at 500-hour intervals, air filter at 1,000 hours. Given the 2 MW class, having an established service relationship with a local provider before the unit goes into service is essential — not something to arrange after a failure at 2 AM.
Our Service Experience#
OnPoint Generators services MTU 4000-series generator sets in the Bay Area and Northern California. The 20V4000 is a specialized platform — fewer technicians are certified on it than on John Deere or Cummins. We maintain 4000-series parts inventory and can respond to both scheduled maintenance and emergency service for HTW-2000 deployments across NorCal.
