Overview#

The Generac SD100 is a 100-kilowatt diesel standby generator powered by an Iveco/FPT 6.7-liter turbocharged and aftercooled inline-six engine. Rated at 100 kW standby and 90 kW prime, it occupies the entry point of Generac's mid-range industrial diesel lineup and is EPA Certified for Stationary Emergency applications.

Generac pairs the 6.7L Iveco with their own Model 390 alternator featuring Class H insulation, permanent magnet excitation, and synchronous brushless design. The Digital H control panel provides full system monitoring with NFPA 110 Level I and II programmability, Modbus communications, and predictive maintenance algorithms.

The Iveco/FPT 6.7L platform#

The 6.7-liter inline-six in the SD100 features mechanical Stanadyne fuel injection, a 16.5:1 compression ratio, and runs at 1800 RPM producing 152 horsepower at rated kW. Piston speed is 1,559 ft/min with BMEP of 165 psi -- moderate figures that indicate a conservatively rated engine platform well suited for standby duty cycles. The 12 VDC electrical system uses a standard battery charging alternator and solenoid-activated starter.

Our service experience#

In Northern California commercial installations, the SD100 is commonly deployed at medical offices, retail centers, and small data rooms. At 7.3 gph full load, fuel consumption is economical for the power class. We recommend maintaining the 50/50 ethylene glycol coolant mix and exercising the unit weekly via the built-in 7-day programmable exerciser. The 120/240 VAC coolant heater should be verified at each service visit, particularly before winter months, as failed heaters are the most common cause of slow-start alarms in standby applications.

Frequently Asked Questions

What engine does the Generac SD100 use?
The Generac SD100 uses an Iveco/FPT 6.7-liter, six-cylinder in-line turbocharged and aftercooled diesel engine running at 1800 RPM. The engine has a bore of 104 mm and stroke of 128 mm with a 16.5:1 compression ratio. It uses mechanical fuel injection (Stanadyne) and is EPA Certified for Stationary Emergency applications.
What is the fuel consumption of the Generac SD100?
At standby rating, the SD100 consumes 7.3 gallons per hour at full load (100%), 5.9 gph at 75% load, 4.2 gph at 50% load, and 2.2 gph at 25% load. Total fuel pump flow (combustion plus return) is 29.1 gph. The fuel pump lift is rated at 3 feet.
What voltages are available for the SD100?
The SD100 is available in single-phase 120/240 VAC (417 amps at 1.0 pf) and three-phase configurations: 120/208 VAC (347 amps), 120/240 VAC (301 amps), 277/480 VAC (150 amps), and 346/600 VAC (120 amps), all at 0.8 power factor. The alternator is a 12-lead design with 2/3 pitch.
What are the dimensions and weight of the SD100?
The open-set SD100 (no base tank) measures 128 x 54 x 58 inches and weighs approximately 4,465 lbs. Various sub-base fuel tank options are available with runtimes from 10 to 90 hours, increasing the height and weight accordingly. Standard and acoustic enclosure options are also available in steel or aluminum.
