Overview#
The Generac SD600 is a 600 kW standby (540 kW prime) industrial diesel generator set powered by a Perkins 18.1L turbocharged and aftercooled inline-6 engine. Rated at 750 kVA standby and 675 kVA prime at 60 Hz, it is EPA certified for stationary emergency applications. The genset features electronic isochronous governing with steady-state frequency regulation of plus or minus 0.25%.
Engine and alternator#
The Perkins 18.1L inline-6 delivers 909 hp at the rated 600 kW standby output at 1,800 RPM. Key engine specifications include a 14.5:1 compression ratio, 5.71-inch bore, 7.20-inch stroke, and MEUI electronic fuel injection. The lubrication system uses a gear-driven oil pump with full-flow filtration and a 47.55-quart crankcase capacity.
The standard alternator is the Generac K0792124Y23, a 4-pole revolving-field design with Class H insulation on both rotor and stator. It features permanent magnet excitation, digital voltage regulation with plus or minus 0.25% steady-state accuracy, and total harmonic distortion below 3%. The alternator is direct-coupled to the engine via flexible disc.
Power ratings and fuel consumption#
At 277/480V three-phase and 0.8 power factor, the SD600 delivers 600 kW standby (902 amps). Motor starting capability with the standard alternator is 2,250 skVA at 30% voltage dip.
Fuel consumption at standby ratings: 41.4 gph at 100% load, 35.6 gph at 75%, 28.2 gph at 50%, and 18.4 gph at 25% load. The fuel system uses primary 10-micron and secondary 2-micron filtration.
Physical dimensions#
The open set measures 154.4 x 71.0 x 67.5 inches (3,923 x 1,803 x 1,715 mm) without a fuel tank, weighing 8,520 to 10,778 lbs. With a 48-hour integral base tank (2,002 gallons usable), the footprint extends to 290.0 x 71.0 x 103.5 inches.
Our service experience#
The Perkins 18.1L is a proven platform in this power class. The MEUI fuel injection system requires clean, water-free fuel to avoid injector failures. We recommend fuel polishing systems for installations with infrequent run hours, and regular exercising under load to prevent wet stacking.
