Overview#
The Generac SD025T is a 25-kilowatt Tier 4 Final industrial diesel standby generator. The "T" designation indicates EPA Tier 4 Final certification with diesel particulate filter aftertreatment, allowing the unit to operate in both emergency and non-emergency applications. This is the key differentiator from the emergency-only certified models in the SD Series small diesel lineup.
Powered by a Perkins 2.2-liter turbocharged inline-four, the SD025T fits between the SD020 and SD035 in Generac's power range. The Tier 4 Final certification adds a DPF aftertreatment system that increases the package size and maintenance requirements compared to the emergency-only SD020, but enables deployment in locations where local air quality regulations require Tier 4 Final compliance regardless of generator application.
Our Service Experience#
The DPF aftertreatment on the SD025T is the primary service consideration. Standby generators that run infrequently accumulate soot without reaching the exhaust temperatures needed for passive regeneration. We recommend exercising the unit under at least 50% load for 30 minutes weekly to maintain DPF health. When the high-backpressure alarm triggers, a forced regeneration cycle is required — this takes 30-45 minutes and must complete uninterrupted. The underlying Perkins 2.2L engine is the same proven platform used in the SD020, with the same service intervals and reliability profile.
