Overview#
The Triton Power TP-V550-T4F is a 550 kW diesel standby generator powered by the Volvo TWD1672GE turbocharged six-cylinder engine (16.1 L displacement). This is one of Triton's Tier 4 Final nonroad-certified units, paired with a Leroy Somer LSA47.2 alternator. Available in three-phase only at 120/208V and 277/480V, the unit includes a 264-gallon (1,000 L) integral fuel tank with 125% fluid containment.
The Volvo TWD1672GE produces 585 kWm (784 HP) at 1800 RPM. Fuel consumption is 99.1 L/hr (26.18 GPH) at full load, dropping to 51.2 L/hr (13.53 GPH) at half load. The unit uses a Deep Sea Electronics DSE7420 controller and is available in open, enclosed, and mobile configurations with sub-base tank options up to 45 hours runtime.
The Volvo TWD engine advantage#
The Volvo TWD1672GE represents Triton's Tier 4 Final offering in the 500-550 kW class, complementing the Perkins-powered Tier 2/3 models at similar ratings. Volvo's TWD engine platform is widely used in power generation across brands like SDMO and Atlas Copco, providing good parts availability through Volvo Penta's global dealer network. The Tier 4 Final certification makes this unit suitable for nonroad mobile and rental applications where emissions compliance is required.
Our service experience#
At 550 kW, this Volvo-powered unit fills the gap between Triton's Perkins 2506C-powered 500 kW model and the 2806C-powered 600 kW model. The Volvo engine is a familiar platform for shops already servicing Volvo-powered generators from other OEMs. In Northern California, Tier 4 Final units are increasingly specified for construction, rental fleet, and mobile power applications where air quality regulations are strict.
