Overview#
The Hipower HFW-100 is a 100 kW stationary standby diesel generator powered by the FPT Industrial N67 inline-6 engine and a Stamford alternator. Manufactured at Hipower's 515,000 sq ft facility in Olathe, Kansas, the HFW-100 carries EPA Tier 4 Final certification and is designed for demanding commercial standby applications — office buildings, supermarkets, urgent care centers, and telecom infrastructure where 100 kW of reliable backup power is paired with strict emissions compliance. The N67 engine represents a step up in displacement and cylinder count from the N45-powered HFW-60 and HFW-80, delivering increased torque reserve at this output level.
FPT Industrial Engine Platform#
The N67 is a 6.7-liter turbocharged inline-6 diesel produced by FPT Industrial, the power generation and industrial engine arm of CNH Industrial. The N67 shares its core architecture with engines powering Case IH and New Holland tractors — one of the most widely deployed inline-6 diesel platforms in North American agriculture. This translates to a parts and service ecosystem that extends far beyond the generator market into agricultural dealers across California.
At 100 kW standby output, the N67 operates at 1800 RPM for 60 Hz generation with substantial torque reserve, which contributes to stable frequency regulation during motor starting events. Tier 4 Final compliance for the N67 family typically involves a combination of SCR aftertreatment for NOx reduction and a diesel particulate filter — a factory-engineered emissions system that satisfies both EPA certification and California CARB requirements without requiring operator-modified configurations.
FPT's California presence is amplified by the CNH dealer network spanning from the Sacramento Valley to the Salinas Valley, with dealer locations stocking N67-family consumables and maintaining FPT-certified diagnostic equipment.
Hipower Design Advantages#
Hipower builds the HFW-100 to NFPA 110 Level I/II compliance, covering life-safety and optional standby classifications. Single-phase availability (120/240V and 120/208V) in addition to three-phase 277/480V makes the HFW-100 suitable for a broad range of commercial electrical configurations, including older commercial buildings with single-phase distribution.
The DSE digital controller handles automatic start sequencing, transfer switch coordination, and multi-fault protection. Optional paralleling capability (via DSE8610 controller upgrade) allows two or more HFW-100 units to share load in critical installations. Hipower's in-house enclosure and fuel system integration simplifies permit submittal packages for NFPA 110, UL 2200, and seismic (IBC) requirements.
Service and Maintenance#
The FPT N67's 500-hour oil change interval under standby duty is consistent with FPT's published maintenance schedule for this engine family. The 12-month calendar trigger is typically the operational driver for commercial standby units that accumulate fewer running hours annually.
At 100 kW, fuel quality management becomes increasingly important. The N67's common-rail fuel system is sensitive to water contamination and microbial growth in diesel that sits in the tank for extended periods. Annual fuel polishing is strongly recommended — especially for Bay Area coastal installations where temperature cycling accelerates condensation in the fuel tank. A fuel biocide program extends injector service intervals and reduces the risk of unplanned service calls.
Stamford UCI274-family alternators are field-proven at this output class. Annual service items include insulation resistance testing, connection torque verification, and inspection for bearing wear.
Our Service Experience#
OnPoint Generators services HFW-100 units across the Bay Area and Northern California. The FPT N67 parts supply through CNH's Case/New Holland dealer network keeps filter and injector lead times short for our field teams. EPA Tier 4 Final certification makes new installations straightforward from a permit perspective, and OnPoint supports ATC and permit-to-operate documentation for California commercial projects.
