Overview#

The Generac SG175 is a 175 kW standby (158 kW prime) demand response ready industrial natural gas generator set powered by Generac's 14.2L inline-6 turbocharged and aftercooled spark-ignited engine. Rated at 219 kVA standby and 198 kVA prime at 60 Hz, it is EPA certified for both stationary emergency and non-emergency applications. The genset features the Generac Power Zone Pro Sync controller with a 7-inch color touchscreen display, Modbus RTU/TCP/IP, and Ethernet communications.

Engine and alternator#

The Generac 14.2L (864 cubic inch) inline-6 turbocharged/aftercooled engine delivers 175 kW standby at 1,800 RPM. The engine has a 9.5:1 compression ratio, ductile iron crankshaft and cylinder liners, cast iron cylinder head, 7 main bearings, solid lifters, and high-temperature steel alloy exhaust valves with hardened valve seats. The electrical system uses 24V DC (dual 12V batteries), a step up from the 12V system used on the smaller SG-series models. Oil capacity is 36.2 quarts (34.3 L).

The standard alternator is the Generac K0200124Y21, a 4-pole revolving-field design with Class H insulation on both rotor and stator. It features permanent magnet excitation, full digital voltage regulation with plus or minus 0.25% steady-state accuracy, and total harmonic distortion below 5%.

Power ratings and fuel consumption#

At 277/480V three-phase and 0.8 power factor, the SG175 delivers 175 kW standby / 158 kW prime. The unit supports single-phase and three-phase configurations across 120/208V, 120/240V, 277/480V, and 346/600V.

Natural gas consumption at standby/demand response ratings: 2,400 scfh at 100% load, 1,980 scfh at 75%, 1,440 scfh at 50%, and 900 scfh at 25% load.

Physical dimensions#

The open set measures 128.0 x 52.9 x 62.3 inches, weighing 5,281 lbs. Weather protected enclosure and Level 1, 2, and 3 sound attenuated enclosure options are available.

Our service experience#

The SG175 marks the transition from the 9.0L V8 platform to the 14.2L inline-6 platform — a significant step up in displacement, physical footprint, and system voltage (24V DC electrical vs 12V on the smaller models). Exhaust temperature at 1,350 degrees F is lower than the peak 9.0L V8 output (1,440 degrees F on the SG150), reflecting the larger displacement operating at lower BMEP. The Power Zone Pro Sync controller supports parallel generator operation, making this model well-suited to paralleled installations for campus and data center applications. The 36.2-quart oil capacity requires an oil service plan that accounts for this large crankcase volume.

Estimate runtime for the Generac SG175

Adjust load percent and tank size to estimate runtime. Pre-filled with this model's spec where available.

Estimate runtime on this tank

Fuel demand at 75% load

1,837,500 BTU/hr1837.5 cf/min @ 1,000 BTU/cf

On utility natural gas the runtime is generally unlimited provided the supply line and meter can deliver this BTU/hr at the engine's required inlet pressure (typically 5–14" WC residential, up to 5 psi commercial). Confirm against the OEM's published fuel-pressure spec.
