Overview#

The Generac SG130 is a 130 kW standby industrial natural gas generator set powered by Generac's 9.0L V8 turbocharged and aftercooled spark-ignited engine. Rated at 163 kVA standby at 60 Hz, it is EPA certified for stationary emergency applications. The genset features the Generac Digital H controller with dual 4x20 display, Modbus protocol, and all-phase sensing digital voltage regulator.

Engine and alternator#

The Generac 9.0L (540 cubic inch) V8 turbocharged/aftercooled engine delivers 200–205 hp at 130 kW standby at 1,800 RPM, with a BMEP of 166 psi. Note that the engine has two build specifications: G18 (manufactured before August 3, 2018) has a 10.5:1 compression ratio and 8.5-quart crankcase; G26 (manufactured after August 3, 2018) has a 9.1:1 compression ratio and 9.5-quart (10 qt) crankcase. Both builds use forged steel crankshaft, hydraulic roller lifters, and high energy ignition.

The standard alternator is the Generac K0130124Y21, a 4-pole rotating-field design with Class H insulation on both rotor and stator. It features synchronous brushless excitation, full digital voltage regulation with plus or minus 0.25% steady-state accuracy, and total harmonic distortion below 5%.

Power ratings and fuel consumption#

At 277/480V three-phase and 0.8 power factor, the SG130 delivers 130 kW standby (196 A). Single-phase 120/240V at 1.0 pf produces 130 kW at 542 A.

Natural gas consumption at standby ratings: 1,797 cfh at 100% load, 1,401 cfh at 75%, 1,005 cfh at 50%, and 635 cfh at 25% load.

Physical dimensions#

The open set (including exhaust flex) measures 110.0 x 39.9 x 54.3 inches (2,795 x 1,013 x 1,379 mm), weighing 2,674 lbs (1,213 kg). The weather protected enclosure measures 132.7 x 40.5 x 63.1 inches. Level 1 sound attenuated enclosure: 154.1 x 40.5 x 63.1 inches. Level 2 sound attenuated enclosure: 144.5 x 40.5 x 80.0 inches.

Our service experience#

The 9.0L V8 turbocharged/aftercooled platform produces a more moderate exhaust temperature (1,285 degrees F) than the more aggressively tuned 4.5L units, despite the high-output turbocharged configuration. The G18/G26 build variation is important for service — verify the build date to confirm compression ratio and oil capacity for the unit in service. Spark plug replacement at 1,000-hour intervals across all 8 cylinders is the key maintenance task. The full-load operating fuel pressure of 7–11 inches of water column is tighter than the broader 5–14 in H2O range of the smaller SG models — proper gas supply design is critical.

Estimate runtime on this tank

Fuel demand at 75% load

1,365,000 BTU/hr1365.0 cf/min @ 1,000 BTU/cf

On utility natural gas the runtime is generally unlimited provided the supply line and meter can deliver this BTU/hr at the engine's required inlet pressure (typically 5–14" WC residential, up to 5 psi commercial). Confirm against the OEM's published fuel-pressure spec.
