Overview#
The Detroit Diesel Series 60 12.7L is a legacy diesel generator powered by the Series 60 four-stroke turbocharged inline-six engine. With 12.7 liters of displacement, the Series 60 represented Detroit Diesel's transition from two-stroke to modern four-stroke technology and was the company's most technologically advanced engine platform. In generator applications, the 12.7L model produces approximately 350 kW standby power and meets Tier 1 and Tier 2 emissions standards.
The Series 60 was manufactured from 1987 to 2011 and is no longer in production. It introduced electronic fuel injection to the Detroit Diesel lineup, offering improved fuel efficiency and lower emissions compared to the older two-stroke platforms. The engine's successor in the generator market is the MTU Series 2000/4000. Despite being discontinued, the Series 60 12.7L has a large installed base with strong aftermarket support. OnPoint provides full maintenance, repair, and control system services for facilities operating Series 60-powered generators.
